Saving You Time and Money

TCS RUD is at the forefront when it comes to chaining the world’s largest machines and tyres. By protectiing tyres from excessive abrasion, punctures and side wall damages, TCS RUD Tyre Protection Chains ensure that our clients save money through prolonging tyre life and preventing frequent tyre replacements.

In modern mining and quarrying, shovel and pan has been superseded by sophisticated machines that, daily, take giant bites out of the ground and haul them away for crushing and refining. Given the multi-million investments in these machines, optimum productivity is the core requirement and any unscheduled downtime is an unwanted costly inconvenience. Where wheeled machines are used for stripping, loading, hauling and stockpiling, ultimately, the operation’s profitability will depend upon the tyres. Underground mining, tunnelling and caving is among the most demanding activities. For mobile operations, miners select TCS RUD Tyre Protection Chains to ensure traction safety and to provide low profile tyres with allround protection from abrasion and sidewall damage.

Our application areas include:

OPEN PIT MINING

Open-pit mining, also known as opencast mining, is a surface mining technique that extracts minerals from an open pit in the ground. Open pit mining is a 24/7 operation and the most popular method for mineral mining. This surface mining technique is used when mineral or ore deposits are found relatively close to the surface of the earth and requires for millions of tonnes to be moved. Open pit mining makes use of large fleet of earth-mining equipment that composes of expensive and vulnerable tyres. Our Tyre Protection Chains are fitted to prolong the wear and tear of those tyres with double and even triple the normal lifespan of a tyre running without chains.

UNDERGROUND MINING

Underground mining, tunnelling, and caving is among the most demanding activities. For mobile operations, miners select TCS RUD Tyre Protection Chains to ensure traction safety and to provide low profile tyres with all-round protection from abrasion and sidewall damage. Ranging from low surface tunnelling to deepest level mining at 4,785 m our Tyre Protection Chains keep underground operations going. Our Chains are used with a wide range of highly specialized equipment like loaders, shuttle cars, scoops, and other wheeled vehicles, for both protection and traction.

QUARRYING

Abrasive surfaces and sharp-edged stones are a great hazard for tyres. Quartz, silica, dolomite, basalt, granite is just some of the causes of excessive tyre wear. Flint, slate and shale-like rocks, or demolition debris can cause punctures and deep sidewall cuts. The density of our Chain’s mesh will depend on the exact nature of the work site, but it should be self-cleaning and the links specially hardened to resist wear at the points where they interact with the connecting rings.

SLAG AND SCRAP HANDELING

Working with hot slag in very high temperatures, liquid steel slag can scorch tyres, and result in lost tyres and risk human life. Our specifically developed and especially hardened forged wear links ensure optimal tyre protection even on hot and burning surfaces – Temperatures up to 1,200 °C (2,190 °F). The TCS RUD RING-RING system encases the tyre’s vulnerable tread and sidewall with a close impenetrable mesh therefore preventing possible down-time.

TRACTION

At some sites, where the terrain is slippery, muddy or steep, poor traction can be a major problem. Wrestling to control a loaded truck with spinning wheels and a mind of its own is exhausting for the operator and risks ‘losing’ the truck with all the collateral damage that may involve. Where the tyre tread, alone, cannot provide an adequate grip, our Chains are essential for the safe operation of the equipment. Available with ring sizes from 11mm to 23mm, these chains are suitable for a wide range of applications, including wheeled loaders, dumpers motor graders, wheel dozers scrapers, and logging machines.

SIDEFLEX®

Slideflex® is designed for haul trucks. Our R&D team has come up with the first cost-effective sidewall protection for haul truck tyres. SIDEFLEX® comprises a sturdy set of replacement wheel nuts and extensions supporting a flat ring to which is attached a
fanned array of overlapping platelets. In action the platelets shield the entire sidewall and deflect any aggressive rock debris that might otherwise pierce the sidewall rendering the tyre useless and immobilizing the truck. Our SIDEFLEX® ‘shield’ is manufactured from a sophisticated engineering polymer.
This robust material has a unique memory capability that enables the platelets to flex and deform upon impact and then return to their original shape, time after time, without any loss of integrity.
